SURVIVING NEVIS: THE PODCAST
All the stuff not in the brochure!
A deep dive into the underbelly of America’s Offshore Medical Education, and what happens when the exploitation of the federal student loan system turns deadly.
On October 3rd, 2018 on the island of Nevis there was a gas explosion in the Medical University Dormitory that injured two women who eventually died from their injuries. It is easy to dismiss their fate as an accident, but a year later a similar accident happened at Medical Universities of the America’s (MUA) sister school on the Island of Saba.
Through the lens of this deadly tragedy, we will explore how MUA failed to protect its students and how the United States Financial Aid pays for it.
Surviving Nevis is a serial that explores the failings of America’s higher educational system and how its system of gatekeeping designed to benefit the wealthy drives many learners, desperate to find a way into the middle class, into predatory for-profit schools.
